The debut of the director best known for his historical romance Brooklyn is an unexpectedly bleak drama wrought with dark humor. Described as a likable film about nasty people, it is set in the gloomy suburb of Dublin, where the lives of a dozen different people intertwine. Insecure John decides to break up with his girlfriend Deirdre to put her love to the test but his plan backfires, setting in motion a series of spiraling events which also influence others in the neighborhood. The film was a huge box-office success in Ireland, and won the Audience Award at the prestigious Irish festival Galway Film Fleadh. Stuntman Patric Condren was the first Irish person to be nominated for the stunt award Taurus for the biggest action scene ever filmed in Ireland.
