The latest drama from the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar is a touching homage to the Canadian author and Nobel laureate Alice Munro. Based on her short story collection, Julieta is also Almodóvar’s return to the particular type of stories which brought him fame – those revolving around strong, complex heroines. Fifty-year-old Julieta and her partner Lorenzo are moving from their luxurious Madrid apartment to Portugal. One day she bumps into Bea, former best friend of her missing daughter Antia. Bea informs Julieta that her daughter is alive and well, and has her own family. This discovery leads Julieta to change her plans and, instead of moving to Portugal, she moves into the building where she used to live with Antia.
