The early 1990s civil war in Georgia has resulted in the separation and independence of Abkhazia. Many people had to leave their homes and everything they owned behind, while the abandoned houses received their new owners – the winners. House of Others tells their story, inspired by personal experience of the director Rusudan Glurjidze. After moving into the refugees’ empty homes, the newcomers are trying to build a new life for themselves. However, the dormant nature enshrouded in a soft mist, endless lemon gardens, and empty yards are imbued with bleak memories of the horrors of war, making it impossible for the new tenants to find the peace they seek. House of Others won Best Film in the East of the West Competition in Karlovy Vary.
Georgian director and producer, born in Tbilisi in 1972. House of Others is her directorial feature debut and Georgian entry for the Academy Awards.
