Danilo and Rade Šerbedžija have transferred the legendary theater drama by Dušan Jovanović to the big screen, making it the Macedonian entry for the Academy Awards. This historical war drama centers on the downfall of a family. The year is 1941 and the city has been occupied by the Germans and their Bulgarian allies. Eleven-year-old Zoran witnesses the horrors of war. While his father is fighting for the Partisan army, his mother gets a job with a German officer in order to save her sister’s husband Georgij. After suffering a beating that leaves him disabled, Georgij becomes an alcoholic, while Zoran’s mother and Hans grow more intimate.
