Documentarists André and Rémy have found the ideal protagonist for their new biopic: Ben is elegant, witty, charming – and a serial killer. Full of keen ideas about art, nature, society, and popular culture, he is eager to share them cheerfully while he goes about killing postmen, pensioners, and other random passersby in cold blood. By the time they realize how much of their artistic and moral integrity has been lost, the two filmmakers have been pulled deeply into Ben’s deadly game. The controversial winner of the International Critics’ Prize in Cannes in 1992, Man Bites Dog is a biting and uncompromising satire on the relationship between media and violence, today enjoying a cult status.
Aside from the short film No C4 for Daniel-Daniel (1987), this is the only cooperation of the Belgian trio. Rémy Belvaux and André Bonzel have continued their careers successfully in the commercial sector, and Benoît Poelvoorde has built an impressive acting career (Coco Before Chanel, 2009, The Brand New Testament, 2015).
