Year of the Devil is a twisted and amusing mix of fiction, documentary, and fantasy centered on Jan Holman, a recovering alcoholic and documentary filmmaker. With the intention of making a documentary film, he enters a rehab center where he meets the famous Czech musician Jaromír Nohavica. When Jaromír decides to start a concert tour with the funeral band Čechomor, Jan abandons his initial plans and joins the peculiar group. The film is based on the true story of Jaromír Nohavica, who plays a fictionalized version of himself. For its subject matter and humor it is often compared with the iconic music mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. It has been awarded the Crystal Globe for Best Film in Karlovy Vary.
